Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) gives each district up to ₹50 lakh to set up community biogas plants that turn cattle dung and farm waste into biogas and slurry manure; households with cattle can be covered with individual plants, especially in hilly areas.

How to apply
- There is no individual application form: the district puts at least one model GOBARdhan project into its District Implementation Plan, preferably near a gaushala, market or institution with plenty of organic waste (Annexure-III, District Plan).
- Ask your Gram Panchayat or the district Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) cell to include your village, gaushala or cattle-keeping households in the plan; Gram Panchayats can run the plants (cl. 5.4.1.2).
- Biogas plants, including private ones, are registered on the GOBARdhan Unified Registration Portal (gobardhan.sbm.gov.in).
