Only healthy crossbred female calves aged 4–6 months from the calf birth register are selected. A revamped “Digital SLBP” (unit cost ₹60,000 per calf, 50% = ₹30,000 from government, paid by DBT) is being piloted in Pathanamthitta district for 800 calves in 2025-26 under G.O.(Rt) No. 630/2025/AHD; it is not counted here.

    How to apply

    1. Register your calf’s birth at the local veterinary dispensary or hospital; calves are picked from the calf birth register (Major Activities — Selection).
    2. When the calf is 4–6 months old and healthy, the veterinary surgeon enrols it and insures it up to 32 months of age.
    3. Attend the one-day calf-rearing training, then collect the monthly feed at half price from the selected milk co-operative society.
