One unit (2 cows, first or second calving) per keeper (para 4(viii)). Since the 23 Oct 2024 amendment (GO 895) the scheme covers all 75 districts and transit insurance is optional; since the 13 Feb 2025 amendment (GO 70) insurance is for 1 year, renewed yearly by the keeper for 2 more years.

“एक इकाई का तात्पर्य प्रति लाभार्थी स्वदेशी उन्नत नस्ल की 02 गायों से है तथा यूनिट कास्ट लगभग रुपये 2.0 लाख माना गया है। बाह्य प्रदेश से स्वदेशी उन्नत नस्ल की दुधारू गाय के क्रय, परिवहन, ट्रांजिट बीमा, 03 वर्षों के लिए पशु बीमा, चारा काटने की मशीन तथा गायों के रख-रखाव हेतु शेड निर्माण पर व्यय कुल धनराशि का 40 प्रतिशत, अधिकतम ₹ 80000 अनुमन्य होगा।”

Papers you need

  • Self-attested Aadhaar copy (para 8(iii))
  • Notarised affidavit that you do not already keep more than two improved indigenous or F-1 crossbred cows and have space for the animals (para 8(iii))
  • For the claim: cow purchase receipt, transport receipt, insurance papers, chaff-cutter and shed bills, ear-tag number, veterinary health certificate (para 10)

How to apply

  1. Apply in the prescribed form (Annexure-1) on the Nand Baba Milk Mission portal; until it is online, by registered post or by hand at the Chief Development Officer or Chief Veterinary Officer’s office (para 8(ii)).
  2. If applications exceed the district target, the District Executive Committee selects by e-lottery (para 8(iv)).
  3. Buy the cows outside the state, ear-tag and insure them, then claim the grant within one month of buying (Annexure-2) with the bills (para 10).
