Under J&K’s Holistic Agriculture Development Programme, a sheep or goat breeding farm of at least 500 females and 25 males gets a 50% back-ended capital subsidy of up to ₹50 lakh; smaller 50-animal units get 50% of the unit cost up to a ceiling the guidelines do not print.

Animals must be 1.5–2 years old, UID-tagged and kept for at least two years for breeding; efforts are made to cover 20% SC/ST and 10% women beneficiaries.

  • For a self-financed breeding farm: a bank guarantee valid for three years

How to apply

  1. Apply at the office of the District Sheep Husbandry Officer (DSHO) of your district (horizontal expansion, para xii).
  2. A committee of the DSHO, a district administration member and the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon selects beneficiaries (para xv).
  3. Set up the unit; after the invoice and a physical check, the subsidy is released by DBT — or to your bank as back-ended subsidy if you take a loan with 10% margin money (paras viii–xi).
  4. For a 500-female breeding farm, the first half of the subsidy goes to your bank after the first loan instalment (or after 25% of the cost is spent, if self-financed with a bank guarantee); the second half after completion.

Applying is free. Never pay anyone to apply for you.
