The state pays 85% of the premium to insure milch cows and she-buffaloes for 1, 2 or 3 years against death; the farmer pays 15%, for up to 5 animals a household.

Papers you need
- Health certificate of the animal with its ear-tag number
- Aadhaar or other government ID
- First page of the bank passbook (account number, IFSC)
- Geo-tagged photos of the animal showing the ear tag
How to apply
- Tell the local livestock inspector, vet or the OLRDS insurance intermediary that you want cover (Sl. 10).
- On the fixed day the animal is ear-tagged, gets a health certificate and is valued, and geo-tagged photos are taken.
- Pay your 15% share (cash, bank transfer or UPI); cover starts on receipt, with no waiting period.
- If the animal dies, inform the LI / insurer within 24 hours; the claim is settled within 15 days of complete papers.
