During the 61-day annual fishing ban (East coast 15 April–14 June, West coast 1 June–31 July), each marine fishing family gets ₹8,000; ₹1,500 of it is the Centre’s PMMSY share, and for those above 60 the State pays all of it.

“To support fishing families during this mandatory closure, the Government provides Rs.8,000/- as Ban Period Relief Assistance, of which Rs.1,500/- is contributed by the Government of India under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). For beneficiaries above 60 years of age, the entire assistance is borne by the Government of Tamil Nadu.”

    How to apply

    1. Stay registered as a marine fisherman with the Fisheries Department / Fishermen Welfare Board; the relief is paid to registered families during the ban.
    2. If it does not arrive, ask at the Assistant Director of Fisheries office.

    Applying is free. Never pay anyone to apply for you.

    When to apply

    Paid for the ban: East coast 15 April–14 June; West coast 1 June–31 July (Table 5).
