Paid from a ₹20 lakh-a-year corpus; if claims in a year exceed it, the managing committee decides the actual amount (cl. 4 D, 6 D.2). Not available if the family takes any other insurance compensation through the Directorate (cl. 6 F).

Papers you need
- For enrolment: vessel or net registration certificate, fish seller card or other department registration (fish farmers: CAA certificate and 15 years’ domicile; crew: owner’s certificate and 15 years’ domicile)
- For the claim: death certificate, the fisher’s enrolment ID, Aadhaar, bank details and photo of the next of kin, and a declaration that the next of kin is not a government employee
How to apply
- Enrol between 1 January and 15 March for cover from 1 April to 31 March, at the Directorate of Fisheries zone office (forms also at BDO offices and village panchayats), paying ₹100 once (cl. 5 C–D).
- If the fisher dies, the next of kin applies to the zone office within 3 months with the death certificate and the fisher’s enrolment ID (cl. 6 B–C).
- After scrutiny and sanction the money is paid by ECS/Aadhaar-based payment (cl. 6 C–E).

When to apply
Enrol from 1 January to 15 March each year for cover from 1 April; claim within 3 months of death.
