What the document says, word for word
Up from 100 days under MGNREGA (FAQ Q11). Each State must notify its own Scheme within six months of 1 July 2026 (s.3(1)), so local details follow the State Scheme.
“5. (1) Save as otherwise provided, the State Government shall, in such rural area in the State as may be notified by the Central Government, provide to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work, not less than one hundred and twenty-five days of guaranteed employment in a financial year in accordance with the Scheme made under this Act. (2) Every person who has done the work given to him under the Scheme shall be entitled to receive wages at the wage rate for each day of work.”From 1 July 2026 the daily wage for this work is ₹300 in most states and up to ₹409 a day (Haryana); for example Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan ₹300, Punjab ₹360, Karnataka ₹382, Kerala ₹401.

Himachal Pradesh scheduled areas ₹375; three Sikkim gram panchayats ₹450. Work beyond 5 km of the village earns 10% extra (FAQ Q26).
“the Central Government hereby specifies, for the purposes of the said Act, the wage rate applicable to the unskilled manual work provided under the Scheme notified under section 3 of the said Act in column(3) of the Schedule below, in respect of the States and Union territories specified in column (2) thereof, with effect from the 1st day of July, 2026.”Works that create an asset on your own land or homestead are done first for SC, ST, women-headed and other priority households, and then for small and marginal farmers who hold a job card and have an adult willing to work on it.
What the document says, word for word
Which individual works qualify is to be notified by the Central Government; by 6 Oct 2026 the VB-G RAM G circulars page lists only the wage-rate notification. Livelihood works listed in the Act include cattle, goat, pig and poultry shelters and compost/vermicompost units (Schedule I para 4(2)(c), p.19); material spend is capped at 40% at district level (FAQ Q34).
“(6) Without prejudice to the generality of the above, works creating individual assets as notified by the Central Government shall be prioritised on land or homestead owned by households belonging to— (a) the Scheduled Castes; (b) the Scheduled Tribes; (c) nomadic tribes; (d) denotified tribes; (e) economically weaker sections of the society as identified based on criteria notified by the Central Government; (f) women-headed households; (g) households headed by persons with disabilities; (h) beneficiaries of land reforms; (i) beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana—Gramin (PMAY-G); and (j) beneficiaries under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 (2 of 2007), and after exhausting the eligible beneficiaries under the above categories, works may be taken up on the lands of small or marginal farmers as identified on the basis of criteria notified by the Central Government, subject to such conditions as may be notified by the Central Government, including the requirement that such households possess a valid job card and have at least one adult member willing to work on the project undertaken on their land or homestead.”If work is not given within 15 days of asking, the State pays a daily unemployment allowance of at least a quarter of the wage for the first 30 days in the year and at least half after that.
