Disease control for farm animals paid by the government: the Centre buys the FMD, brucellosis, PPR and swine-fever vaccines and pays the vaccinators, and Mobile Veterinary Units come to your door when you call 1962. There is no cash payment to farmers except compensation when animals or birds are culled in an outbreak.

What it pays
Your cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats and pigs are vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease every six months, and female calves of 4 to 8 months once against brucellosis, with the vaccine, ear tag and vaccinator paid for by the Centre.

The Government provides the medicines, surgical items and fuel for the van (cl. 3.3.2 v); the guidelines print no fee for the farmer, so ask the call centre whether your state charges one. The unit is sent only when the call-centre veterinarian judges the case emergent (cl. 3.3.2 viii).

A pharmacist (B.Pharm/D.Pharm), 120 sq ft of space and a drug sale licence are required; the ₹5,000 application fee is waived in the special-incentive areas (cl. 3). The ₹1,50,000 is a reimbursement against original bills, up to what you actually spent; the stock incentive is paid in full only if 80% or more of the prescribed medicines are kept (cl. 4).

- For vaccination: owner’s name, address, Aadhaar number and mobile number for Bharat Pashudhan registration (cl. 2.4.5).
How to apply
- Vaccination is done in village-wise campaigns by your State Animal Husbandry Department; the village schedule and vaccinator’s name are to be published a month in advance (cl. 2.4.4).
- Keep your Aadhaar and mobile number ready: you and your animal are registered on the Bharat Pashudhan portal and each cattle or buffalo gets an ear tag, confirmed by an OTP on your phone (cl. 2.4.5).
- For a sick animal, call the toll-free number 1962; the call centre’s veterinarian decides whether to send the Mobile Veterinary Unit (cl. 3.3.2 viii, 3.3.4).
- A PM-Kisan Samriddhi Kendra or cooperative society that wants to run a Pashu Aushadhi Kendra applies online on the DAHD portal (Pashu Aushadhi guidelines cl. 3(v)).
